These Terms & Conditions apply to the use of the LIFENUP website and provide general information about the counselling and coaching services offered by William J. Lanham-Parker trading as LIFENUP.
Specific counselling, personal coaching, and business and executive coaching engagements are governed by separate client agreements. Where a separate agreement applies, its terms form part of the agreement between us and take precedence in relation to the particular professional service being provided.

Initial conversation
LIFENUP offers prospective clients a free, no-obligation initial online conversation of up to 30 minutes.
The purpose of this conversation is to explore what has brought you to LIFENUP, what you are hoping for, whether the service I offer may be appropriate, and whether we feel comfortable working together.
An initial conversation does not create an obligation on either of us to begin an ongoing professional relationship.
A counselling or coaching relationship begins only when we have mutually agreed to work together and the relevant arrangements have been agreed.
Counselling
Counselling provides a confidential professional relationship in which personal experiences, feelings, relationships, patterns and difficulties can be explored.
Counselling cannot guarantee a particular outcome and is not a substitute for medical, psychiatric or emergency care where those services are required.
The nature of the counselling relationship, confidentiality, session arrangements, fees, cancellations, online working and other relevant boundaries are explained in the counselling agreement provided when we agree to work together.
Personal coaching
Coaching is a collaborative process intended to support reflection, clarity, development, decision-making and purposeful change.
Coaching is not counselling or psychotherapy and does not replace medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal, financial or other specialist professional advice.
You remain responsible for your own decisions, actions and outcomes arising from coaching.
Business and executive coaching
Business and executive coaching may include discussion of leadership, strategy, professional relationships, decision-making, organisational challenges and personal effectiveness.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, coaching does not constitute legal, financial, investment, tax, accounting or other regulated professional advice.
Decisions made following coaching or business discussions remain the responsibility of the client or organisation concerned.
Where a business engagement includes consultancy, advisory work, written reports, stakeholder interviews, travel or other work beyond coaching sessions, the scope, deliverables and fees will be agreed separately.
Where an organisation or other third party commissions or pays for coaching, confidentiality and any arrangements for reporting or sharing information will be agreed with the relevant parties before the work begins.
Fees and payment
Current standard fees are shown on the LIFENUP website or will be confirmed before work begins.
Any different fee, package, organisational arrangement or additional piece of work will be agreed in advance.
Clients are responsible for making payment in accordance with the arrangements set out in their individual client agreement or invoice.
Appointments, cancellations, and missed sessions
Cancellation arrangements applying to ongoing counselling or coaching are set out in the relevant client agreement.
Where a session is cancelled with insufficient notice, the agreed session fee may remain payable unless otherwise agreed.
If I need to change or cancel an appointment, I will endeavour to give as much notice as reasonably possible and arrange an alternative where appropriate.
Your right to cancel
If you are a consumer and enter into an agreement with LIFENUP remotely, you will normally have a legal right to cancel the agreement within 14 days without giving a reason.
You may ask for counselling or coaching to begin during this 14-day cancellation period. By doing so, you expressly request that LIFENUP begins providing the agreed service before the cancellation period has ended.
If you subsequently exercise your right to cancel after services have begun at your request, you may be required to pay for services already provided up to the point at which you cancel.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights.
Online sessions
Online sessions require a suitable internet connection, an appropriate device and a reasonably private environment.
Reasonable care is taken in selecting reputable technology services, but internet-based communication can occasionally be interrupted or affected by technical difficulties.
If a session is unexpectedly disrupted, we will attempt to reconnect or agree an appropriate alternative.
You are responsible for ensuring, so far as reasonably possible, that you participate from an environment in which you can speak privately and safely.
For counselling, and where appropriate, I may need to know your physical location during an online session so that appropriate action could be taken in the event of a serious emergency.
Working internationally
LIFENUP may provide certain online counselling and coaching services to clients located outside the United Kingdom where it is professionally, ethically, legally and practically appropriate to do so.
The availability of a particular service in another country may depend upon local regulatory requirements, professional considerations and the scope of LIFENUP's professional insurance.
LIFENUP therefore reserves the right to decline or discontinue work where providing a service in a particular country or jurisdiction would be inappropriate or outside applicable professional, legal or insurance arrangements.
Unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing, agreements with LIFENUP are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and, subject to any mandatory rights or protections that may apply to you as a consumer, disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Additional contractual provisions may apply to clients in particular countries or jurisdictions.
Confidentiality
Counselling and coaching are conducted on a confidential basis, subject to ethical, professional and legal limitations.
There may be circumstances in which confidentiality cannot be maintained absolutely, including where disclosure is required by law or where there is a serious concern about significant harm to you or another person.
Wherever reasonably possible and appropriate, I would seek to discuss such a disclosure with you beforehand.
The confidentiality arrangements applicable to a particular service are explained more fully in the relevant client agreement.
Professional standards
William J. Lanham-Parker is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a registered member of the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC), and an EMCC Accredited Coaching Practitioner.
My work is undertaken with regard to the ethical and professional standards applicable to the service being provided.
Emergencies and crisis support
LIFENUP does not provide an emergency or crisis service and cannot guarantee availability outside agreed appointments.
If you or another person is in immediate danger or requires urgent medical or mental health assistance, you should contact the appropriate emergency, medical or crisis service in the country in which you are physically located.
