Meet William

A personal welcome

Hello, I'm William. Some people know me as Joe, and either is perfectly fine with me.

I'm glad you've found your way here.

Reaching out for counselling or coaching isn't always easy. You may be feeling overwhelmed or uncertain, or simply know that something in your life or work needs to change.

My aim is to offer a calm, thoughtful space where you are genuinely heard, understood, and accepted.

My story

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent nearly fifty years working in the entertainment industry as a musician, comedian, producer, theatre owner, and business leader.

Looking back, I've come to realise that the thread running through all those years wasn't simply performance—it was people.

I've always been fascinated by what helps people flourish, what causes them to lose confidence, and what enables them to rediscover a sense of direction and purpose.

Why counselling or coaching?

My own life has taken unexpected turns.

Like many people, I've experienced significant change, loss, uncertainty, and the challenge of beginning again.

Those experiences have deepened my understanding of what it means to rebuild, to rediscover purpose, and to create a meaningful future.

Those experiences are part of what led me to counselling and coaching and continue to shape the way I work today.

How I work

No two people are the same, which is why I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to counselling or coaching.

Every person brings their own story, relationships, experiences, and hopes for the future. Rather than trying to fit people into a particular model, I seek first to understand who they are, what has shaped them, and what they need at this point in their lives.

At the heart of my work is the belief that many of the ways we think, feel, and relate to others have been influenced by earlier life experiences. Together, we can gently explore those patterns where it feels helpful, while also finding practical ways to bring about positive change in the present.

Above all, I believe that the relationship we build is at the heart of meaningful change. My aim is to provide a calm, thoughtful and non-judgemental space where you feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted. Whether we are working therapeutically or focusing more directly on change and future goals, I believe people are best able to move forward when they feel safe enough to think openly, understand themselves more clearly, and explore what might be possible.

In my counselling work, I draw on a range of well-established therapeutic approaches, including attachment-informed, psychodynamic, person-centred, cognitive behavioural and solution-focused therapies. Rather than following one model rigidly, I integrate these approaches according to your individual needs, always working collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for you.

Whether our work involves understanding the past, navigating the present, or preparing for the future, my hope is that you will gain greater self-awareness, confidence and freedom to live in a way that feels authentic to you.

Beyond my work

When I am not working with clients, I enjoy continuing my own learning, spending time with family and friends, maintaining my wellbeing through exercise, and exploring the questions that help us all live more meaningful lives.

I believe it's important that you find the right counsellor or coach—even if that isn't me.
